Old and New Gladzor

Gladzor University was one of the significant medieval Armenian universities. It was founded in 1291 by Nersses Mshetsi in todays Gladzor village of Yeghegnadzor region, and closed in 1340.

This 7/8-year institution of higher learning had its charter, its examination and degree systems, its auditoria that focused on (a) educational, external and internal texts; (b) philosophy, grammar, rhetoric, logic, theology, mythology, geometry, arithmetic, astronomy; and (c) the arts - miniature painting, sculpture, manuscript production and music.

This outstanding medieval religious, scientific and educational center trained both scientists and educators. The degrees were conferred in graduation ceremonies. Oral presentation was mandatory for the degree candidate.

In 1984, 700th anniversary of Gladzor University was celebrated in Armenia. To revive and continue the glorious educational-scientific traditions of the medieval predecessor, Dr. Zhora D. Jhangiryan, Ph.D. in Law, initiated the establishment of a new university - Gladzor Management University.

As a result, Gladzor Management University started to function in 1990 as an institution committed to promoting educational development throughout Armenia, neighboring regions and Armenian Diaspora. Beginning with a small number of students in 1990 the university has grown rapidly and now enrolls about 1300 students from all over Armenia and other countries each year.

On July 25, 2001, the university is fully accredited by Licensing and Accreditation Service Agency under the Ministry of Education and Science of Republic of Armenia. Since the University has had its vision to achieve professional excellence through exemplary programs that are recognized at national and international levels, this Agency ensured that the University met and will proceed on meeting the demanding requirements for quality education in diverse areas.
