Co-founder of Yerevan Gladzor University and Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs, Amalya Kharatyan was born in Yerevan. After graduating with honors from Secondary School No. 16 named after Av. Isahakyan, she was admitted to the Faculty of Law at Yerevan State University, where, starting in 1971, she combined her studies with employment at the university and active involvement in academic research. Her dissertation topic was approved by the Chair of Jurisprudence at the Plekhanov Moscow Institute, where she also successfully defended her PhD thesis.
From 1980 to 1995, she worked as a senior lecturer in the Chair of History of Economics and Jurisprudence at the Yerevan Institute of National Economy. Since YGU foundation in 1990, she has served as Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs. A. Kharatyan is also a lecturer in the Chair of Jurisprudence at Yerevan Gladzor University.
She holds the academic title of Professor and has been honored as an honorary Doctor by the International Academy of Nature and Society.
She teaches the courses "Civil Law" and "Family Law" and holds the academic title of Associate Professor at Yerevan Gladzor University. She is married and has two sons. In 2010, in recognition of her contributions to the field of education and science, she was awarded the 20th Anniversary Medal of Yerevan Gladzor University and the Gold Commemorative Medal from the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Armenia.
