Rector of Yerevan Gladzor University, Doctor of Laws, Professor Zhora Daniel Jhangiryan was born on January 1, 1942, in the village of Ararat, Ararat region (currently Ararat marz), in a family of farmers. In 1959, he graduated from the local secondary school. In 1961, he began working at a construction organization in Ararat as a foreman.
From 1962 to 1965, he served in the Soviet Army. After demobilization, starting in 1966, he worked at the Ararat Cement-Slate Plant as a dispatcher. In the same year, he was admitted to the Faculty of Law at Yerevan State University.
After graduating from the university, he joined the Chair of State Law, Soviet Construction, and International Law at Yerevan State University as a senior laboratory assistant.
Between 1973 and 1977, he studied in YSU’s postgraduate program specializing in “State and Administrative Law.” Upon completion of his postgraduate program, he commenced his academic career as a lecturer.
From 1984 to 1990, he worked at Yerevan Polytechnic Institute (currently the Architectural and Construction Institute), initially as a senior lecturer, and in 1987 was awarded the academic title of Associate Professor. In 1990, he founded Gladzor Management University.
Despite a demanding professional workload, Prof. Jhangiryan has consistently engaged in research activities. In 1984, he defended his PhD thesis at Moscow Lomonosov University, and in 2004, he defended his Doctoral thesis.
In 2006, he was awarded the academic title of Professor.
The Rector is the author of approximately 40 scientific works, including four monographs. The book “Separation of Powers in the Republic of Armenia: Constitutional Model and Reality” published in Moscow, was approved by the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Armenia as an academic textbook. Prof. Jhangiryan’s long-standing teaching and research contributions have been duly recognized by the national authorities and the Academic Council of Yerevan Gladzor University. He has been honored with the Prime Minister’s Commemorative Medal, as well as Gold Medals from the Ministry of Education and Science and Yerevan Gladzor University. In 2021, for his significant contributions to the development of education and science, Rector Zhora Daniel Jhangiryan was awarded the Medal of “Mkhitar Gosh” by decree of the President of the Republic of Armenia, Armen Sarkissian.
He is married; his wife, A. Kharatyan, serves as Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs at Yerevan Gladzor University. They have two sons. The elder son, Daniel Jhangiryan, holds a PhD in Economics, is an Associate Professor. He teaches a number of specialized courses at YGU. The younger son, Edgar Jhangiryan, is a lawyer. Prof. Jhangiryan is a grandfather to four grandchildren.
