About the Faculty

The Faculty of Informatics at Yerevan Gladzor University was established in 2003. Itis currently headed by Hamlet Harutyun Harutyunyan, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor.

The activities of the Chair are guided by the regulations of the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of the Republic of Armenia, the resolutions of the University’s Academic Council, the Chair’s Charter, semester work plans, and other internal regulatory documents.

Since the 2006-2007 academic year, the Faculty of Informatics has transitioned to a three-tier educational system, offering Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Postgraduate (PhD) programs.

Since 2007, the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS) has been implemented.

The Chair of Informatics is actively engaged in scientific research. Faculty members regularly participate in Yerevan Gladzor University’s annual academic conferences for professors, lecturers, and postgraduate students. Scientific reports presented at these conferences are published in the University’s annual collections of academic proceedings.

Students of the Faculty of Informatics are provided with ample opportunities to apply the theoretical knowledge they acquire through practical experience.

To fulfill its goals and objectives, and to ensure the achievement of the learning outcomes outlined in the Informatics professional educational program, the Chair’s academic staff is continually strengthened by the addition of doctors of science, professors, PhD candidates, and associate professors. Practice-oriented courses continue to be taught by professionals who are actively engaged in the field.

Collaboration

To organize undergraduate academic, scientific, and research internships, the Chair of Informatics of Yerevan Gladzor University collaborates with both public and private sector organizations.

Events

The Chair of Informatics organizes and conducts monthly academic seminars, in accordance with a pre-established schedule aligned with the Chair’s unified research strategy and thematic agenda. Students actively participate in professional meetings with both local and international programmers in the field of information technology. They also attend international specialized exhibitions in IT, cybersecurity, and communications—such as Comp EXPO, Digitec, ArmHayTech, and others.

Educational programs

The objectives of the program are to:

  • Provide students with fundamental knowledge in information technology and computer science,
  • Develop students’ algorithmic thinking,
  • Equip students with practical professional skills in applying machine learning methods, designing data repositories, and performing mathematical modeling,
  • Prepare specialists capable of developing efficient computational algorithms, conducting all stages of data analysis, and designing and implementing local computer networks.

Thanks to the high-quality and comprehensive education provided by the Bachelor's program, graduates are well-positioned to pursue careers in universities, research institutions, and enterprises within the Republic of Armenia, as well as in the banking and information technology sectors.

Employment opportunities include positions at the institutes of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Armenia, Synopsis, ArmSoft, Instigate Robotics, Digitain LLC, EPAM systems, PicsArt LLC, and other leading organizations.
