On November 20, a student debate on the topic of “Educational Reforms” was held at YGU’s Gladzor College. The event was initiated by Student Council Chairperson Elen Hovhannisyan and supported by vice presidents and council members. The debate featured two competing teams: “New Wave” and “One Step Ahead.” Participants demonstrated exceptional engagement, a thorough understanding of the topic, and clearly articulated, well-reasoned positions on the necessity of reforms. According to attendees, the discussion resembled one conducted by seasoned professionals in the field of education, as both teams presented coherent arguments and thoughtful counterpoints. “It was a true pleasure to listen to 16- and 17-year-old students speak with such maturity and insight,” noted Anahit Hovhannisyan, Supervisor of the College. Selecting a winner proved challenging for the audience, as both teams maintained a high level of knowledge, preparedness, and participation throughout the event. At the conclusion of the debate, Lilit Sahakyan, PhD in Philology, Associate Professor, and Chairperson of the Chair of Languages at YGU, presented all participants and attendees with copies of the recently received Dictionary of Armenian Equivalents for Frequently Used Unnecessary Foreign Words. The dictionary, co-authored by Dr. Hagop Ayntaplean—physician, linguist, and honorary member of the New York Academy of Sciences—and Dr. Artem Sargsyan, Doctor of Philological Sciences, was recently donated to both the Chair of Languages and the University Library.
